[A restaurant following in the footsteps of the traditional Japanese restaurant “Shogetsu”]
The name of the restaurant, “Rokkyu,” comes from a legend that is passed down in Okinohata, one of the tourist spots in Yanagawa City. Long ago, after the downfall of the Heike clan, many of their remnants fled to various parts of Kyushu. Six warriors washed ashore at Okinohata and made a living by fishing. That’s how the fishing industry in Okinohata developed.
Founded in 1970, this restaurant is a successor to the former restaurant “Shogetsu” that was once located in Yanagawa. As a continuation of the “Shogetsu” era, the restaurant’s “steamed eel” is grilled over domestic charcoal without using gas. In addition to the popular “steamed eel,” you can also try “Yanagawa nabe,” which is loach and burdock stewed in mirin and soy sauce and topped with egg.
The restaurant is popular with foreign tourists due to the river boat dock in front of it and the folk art-style interior. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, foreign tourists who visited the restaurant would often post photos of the restaurant on social media. There are not only table seats but also tatami-mat seats, so you can enjoy a relaxing meal while looking at the picturesque scenery.
